Heads up! Federal tickets work a little differently from state tickets. Your ticket says "United States District Court Violation Notice" at the top. It is processed through the Central Violations Bureau (CVB), not your county Superior Court. Ticket Toaster will email you your completion certificate — you must sign it and mail it directly to CVB at U.S. Courts-CVB, P.O. Box 780549, San Antonio, TX 78278. Before enrolling, confirm with your court or CVB at 1-800-827-2982 that traffic school is approved for your citation.

✦ How It Works for Federal Tickets

Clearing a federal land ticket step by step.

Federal tickets follow a different process than California state tickets. Follow these steps carefully.

1
Check your ticket
Confirm it says "United States District Court Violation Notice" at the top. If it says anything else, you may have a state ticket — check your county court instead.
2
Contact CVB to confirm traffic school eligibility
Call the Central Violations Bureau at 1-800-827-2982 or visit cvb.uscourts.gov to confirm traffic school is an option for your specific citation. Not all federal tickets qualify.
3
Request traffic school from the court
Submit a Traffic School Request to the US Attorney's office — usually done online or by mail at least 2 weeks before your court date. You'll receive a "Notice and Order of Traffic School" if approved.
4
Enroll in Ticket Toaster
Sign up free at tickettoaster.com. Complete the course at your own pace — most students finish in a few hours. Pay just $14.95 after you pass.
5
Get your certificate by email
After passing, Ticket Toaster emails your completion certificate directly to you. Do NOT select a school that sends directly to state courts — federal courts require you to mail it yourself.
6
Sign and mail to CVB
Sign your certificate and mail it along with your fine payment to: U.S. Courts-CVB, P.O. Box 780549, San Antonio, TX 78278-0549 — before your deadline. Keep a copy for your records.
✦ Key Differences

Federal vs. State tickets — what's different.

Understanding the differences between a federal land ticket and a regular California state ticket is important before you enroll.

✅ California State Ticket
  • Issued by CHP, city police, or county sheriff
  • Says "Notice to Appear" — no federal header
  • Goes to your county Superior Court
  • Ticket Toaster sends certificate electronically
  • No need to mail anything yourself
  • Court handles everything automatically
⚖️ Federal Land Ticket
  • Issued by NPS ranger, Forest Service, BLM, military police
  • Says "US District Court Violation Notice" at top
  • Processed through CVB — not your county court
  • Ticket Toaster emails certificate to YOU
  • You must sign and mail it to CVB yourself
  • Must request traffic school approval first
✦ Central Violations Bureau

About the CVB — your federal court processor.

All federal land tickets in California go through the Central Violations Bureau.

What is the Central Violations Bureau (CVB)?
The CVB is a national center operated by the Administrative Office of the US Courts that processes all federal violation notices — tickets issued on federal property like national parks, military bases, national forests, VA medical centers, post offices, and other federal land. It handles payments, court dates, and traffic school requests for federal citations across the country.
